It Came From The Porch : Journal Index

30 April 1999:

Got up this morning, started the coffee, went back to bed. Looked over after a bit and noticed the clockface was blank.

"Lilu!"

Damn cat pulled the cord out. Again. Got up, wandered in to get my coffee.

Hmmm. Only a cup or so. Coffeepot's not making any noise... and hey, this lightswitch doesn't do anything. Well, except go up and down.

Damn. Knew I shoulda paid that power bill. Or those last two power bills.

So I headed off to work, resigned to getting my ass down to the power company and paying up.

Why's there a cop in the middle of Dauphin Street? Why is he directing traffic?

Cause the traffic light is out! Hey, it wasn't just me! Wa-hoo! Bill said lights are out all up Springhill. Cool.

Tomorrow is Derby Day! Talked to Chris for a few minutes online about it. He's gonna be cooking up a storm, said he's gonna have some different stuff this year.

Traditionally, Derby Day is a celebration of good bourbon. Year before last, we had a bottle of Wild Turkey Rare Breed. Last year we had three. This year I'm bringing Gentleman Jack, since no one's tried that yet, and Chris seemed agreeable to the idea.

Yesterday was bad. I freaked out and didn't go back to work after lunch. Eventually I calmed down, but it was dicey there for a few hours. Actually worried that I was going mad. Felt mad. Bought a Korn cd and a Godsmack cd. That helped. Drank. Think that helped.

I went back to Rob and Sid's and got online after lunch. Sent John email and let him know what was up, why I wasn't at work like I should be. Got on instant messenger, talked with Mark, and he helped me to calm down. He's a good guy. Talked to Tanya and Justin, too. Thanks guys.

John got on after he got my email and we talked a bit. He is amazingly good to me about this crap. Went out to his house and hung out with him and LouAnne and little John (adorable!) for a while. Sigh.

Also hung out on the porch for a while. New chick, Amelia, moved in behind us. Seems cool. Real redhead, pale as milk. Likes plants. We were passing a bottle back and forth, and after I drank from it, and as I was handing it to Nick, Rob cried out "Oh yuck! Don't drink after Trey! You'll get leukemia!" and we all busted out laughing. Don't think Amelia quite knew how to take that, but that's ok.

Guess things are better now. It's the whole 'This too shall pass' thing, ya know? But I really wish it was just over.
