Spent the day with Rob and Sid. Kind of sad and lonesome since they left. But happy that we got to hang out! We had a great day, went to the hobby shop and browsed for an hour of so. Rob bought Siddy a sort of sparkly prism thing... she loves things that hang in the window and cast rainbows. Ate lunch at Johnny Rockets, and the burger got Rob's approval, no small trick. I thought mine rocked. Siddhary drank a chocolate milkshake in front of me. Meanie. I contented myself with some onion rings and a coke float in addition to the most excellent burger. When a Frank Sinatra song (something about Chicago... I like ol Blue Eyes when I hear him, but couldn't tell you the name of one of his songs if you asked me...) the entire wait staff did a rather well choreographed dance, using ketchup bottles as microphones. It was actually pretty damn amusing, and they looked like they were having fun doing it. One of the girls was bouncing up and down in eagerness before they started, and had the biggest grin the whole time she was singing. So did I mention that we went to the music store? MMI Music, where Rob worked for about seven years, opened a new store up here in Birmingham not too long ago, and John sent Mark and Theresa to run it. I found something I want. WANT. Dammit, not like I don't have enough toys! YOU CAN NEVER HAVE ENOUGH TOYS! Hehehe, ok, dig it: I found a Dean acoustic bass that sounds pretty damn good acoustic as well as plugged in, and is actually priced reasonably. I played with it for about a half an hour, and I wish it was in my hands right now. I'll figure out some way to pay for it! We had a lot of fun while we were there, check it out:
Ok, are these things cool, or what? Roland VDrums. SO much fun to play. Totally electronic. That little black box to the left has a dial on it... that dial tunes in over 50 different drumkits. They sound great, and did I mention that they're fun to play? That big trigger pad to the left can set off anything you want, from a movie quote to a symphonic blast... or a canon blast, for that matter. Just gotta have the sample! They feel like real drums, but are a hell of a lot easier on the neighbors. Put the headphones on, and you've got 'em in stereo right there in your head, just for you. Select the 808 drumkit. Hit that kickdrum. BOOOM. :) I liked the 'Lo-Fi' drumkit myself. Rob likes guitars.
And amps.
Rob busted out with a little 'Day Tripper' on the Rickenbacher. Pretty guitar. Greg DeBlase, original bass player for Mutant Speed, used to play a Ric bass.
Justin somehow managed to get from the Mobile store to this one. He's a madman when he gets the mic in his hand. He's a songwriter, traded me a concert on my porch once for a photograph for his gig posters.
Siddhary, Justin, Theresa and Mark; with Rob crouched down in front. These be good people, ya'll. Mark set my bass up for me when I first bought it. Loved it ever since, thanks man. Theresa's as sweet as they come, many hugs babe! Rob and Sid brought me a videotape of random Porch stuff, lots of kittens and a bit of silliness from the human inhabitants. It was so good to see. I wish Rob and Sid could've stayed here another day. Take it easy kids, I'm starting to fade... fading... fading... ... gone. |
