So now we reach that point... the point at which one begins to wonder... is it even POSSIBLE to talk too much about hospital experiences? I mean, what a fascinating subject, and so educational and entertaining, too! There should be shows on tv about what goes on in the hospital... I know, we could do one about the gritty real-life stories behind what goes on in the ER. Damn, I need to talk to someone about that. I for one am sick unto death (haha yeah right, kinda the opposite, don'tcha know) of talking about disease and hospital and shit like that. So tonight, let's groove a little, shall we? I have gotten so much cool music lately it's not even funny. It's awesome, is what it is! Let's check some out: RL Burnside - A Ass Pocket Full of Whiskey Oh man oh man, gimme an old black man with a guitar and a gruff and often obscene inclination to storytelling - hallelujah! And gimme some white kids with the serious jams - The John Spencer Blues Explosion - hallelujah! And gimme a small room on a farm in Mississippi one afternoon - Praise (insert favorite diety here)! Give me some chaotic blues to jam my worries away. Gimme distortion. Gimme every instrument cranked to 11. Gimme the BLUES. You wanna get a little worked up, this is yo' disc. "Yeah mama tol' papa I got me some Lyle, I got me some Orb. Let's see... The Orb's Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld. Double-disc set of mellow coolness. Dr. Alex Patterson is a genious. The first track on the first disk is "Little Fluffy Clouds", catchy grooves and samples of Ricki Lee Jones on 3-2-1 Contact (interviewed by Levar Burton) that appeared on that Volkswagon commericial. You can start there and just leave it going for the next hour or so. Also got Orbus Terrarum, a little too industrial for me. Cool, mellow grooves, but a bit metallic (and I don't mean Metallica/Anthrax kinda metal). Lyle Lovett's newest, Step Inside This House, is a double-disc set of songs written by other songwriters, recorded by Mr. Lovett. VERY cool stuff. Also got Pontiac (awesome), The Road To Ensenada, Joshua Judges Ruth (also awesome), and I Love Everybody. There's killer stuff on each one. Been good to me lately. Chet Baker. Oh man, oh man. Beda over in Atlanta sent this disc to me, and I've been addicted ever since. Mellow crooning jazz from the mid-fifties. Mr. Baker plays trumpet and sings, and he's so damn good, yuo can't say he's a 'Singer who plays trumpet' or a 'Trumpet player who sings". Got the first one, Chet Baker Sings, and I'm still absorbing it. Soooo mellow. Russ Freeman accompanies on piano, and we got some upright walking bass, little mellow jazz drums. This is the disc I listened to while I was tranplanted... hehehe, and it sounded SO good through fifty mgs of Demerol. Other music that's been inhabiting my life lately: Ray Charles - Blues & Jazz So there has been some great music pumping through these speakers of late. Speaking of speakers, the speaks in question are Cambridge Soundworks Microworks speakers, and they kick ASS. I have NEVER heard a set of multimedia speakers (and rarely ANY set of speakers) that sound this good. I have a Bose Acoustimass system that used to be hooked up at home, but I let my little brother borrow it when I got these. I can't wait to get home and spread out this computer and all the gadgets I've got for it on my huge desk... got another monitor to hook up, too! Y'all take it easy. |
