It Came From The Porch : Journal Index

9 March 1999:

Freak, kitten, freak, toilet paper, alarm clock that doesn't work...
Headed down to The Bike Shop last night, with Cathy from Denson/Reed. Had a few drinks, nice time. Jim and Woody have done a killer job on that place.

INCREDIBLE storm last night. Thunder woke us up about 3:30, 4:00 am, crashing around Midtown. The lightning must've been having fun, 'cause it hung around for quite a while before it headed off, muttering and grumbling to itself. Lay there in bed, high above Dauphin Street, and listened to the wind shake the house, rattling the windows in their frames. Cars going by on the street were a sibilant hiss over wet pavement, and the big oak tree out front was blown back and forth, shedding leaves all night.

10 March 1999:

The sudden change in weather (it's now averaging 70 degrees in the daytime) and the monster storm a few days ago have sent the azaleas into overdrive - they're blooming like mad. Even the shabby neighborhoods on the north side (where I work) manage to look beautiful, with up to a dozen huge azalea bushes in some front yards. In places, they fill the medians on neighborhood streets, blossoming under the arms of the live-oaks. Driving to work this time of year is wonderful.

11 March 1999:

Ack, she's adorable! Mickey came and sat with me while I watched TV... think she was wondering where her mom was. Well, her mom was out with Amy at El Giro drinking lots of margaritas, inciting people to drink drink drink and show skin skin skin. Or so I heard.

16 March 1999:

Sid had her Tupperware party Friday night (after spending a week and a half cleaning her place, she had it at Amy's - something about Rob needing to work or something lame like that)... well, actually, she kicked out the Tupperware lady and just had a party. Margaritas and all sorts of vegetarian goodies. I had to split fairly early and head down to Gabriel's to meet IsabelLark. She was the first person to send me feedback on this site, out of the blue as it were. We'd been IM'ing back and forth for a while and decided to get together. I haven't done that since I was 17. We were standing outside when a well-groomed dude on a Harley pulled up, wanting to know where we were hanging out. We told him, and he showed up inside a few minutes later. It soon became apparent from the look on his face that he hadn't known Gabriel's was a gay bar...
