It Came From The Porch : Journal Index

9 November 1999:

I made it to the day of my bloodtest without drinking, and I suppose that technically I can have a drink now. I sort of want to go and get one to 'celebrate' but I sort of don't. I just hate the way drinking leads downwards in a spiral... first drink tastes really good... second drink does too, and starts to loosen those old inhibitions... third drink is the 'fuckit' drink... and after that, God only knows what I'm inclined to do. So maybe I'll just take it easy on the old drinkypoo. I wish it was the other way around, that I could smoke but not drink. That'd be much more enjoyable. Oh well.

In other news... let's see. Last weekend was good. I went back to Pensacola friday night and picked up Lezlee. I am amazed at how the kids at the Porch opened up to her, especially Amy. Not that they're in any way inhospitable to people I bring around, but it really felt like Lezlee was one of us. I ended up leaving her with Nick for a while on Saturday so Amy and I could get in the darkroom and print. They settled on my porch (the one upstairs... we usually gather on the downstairs porch) with a twelve pack or so of Corona, and the party just kind of grew around them. I crashed out hard around 7 (sorry Lezlee! I was exhausted) but from what I hear, a whole bunch of folks ended up hanging out on my porch Saturday night. Kevin was painting faces and Lezlee shot many digital pictures. As soon as she emails them to me (hint hint Lezl!) I'll post em up here.

Sunday was little Will's baptism. I dragged Lezlee with me (come on, what would a trip to Alabama be without at least one visit to church?) and it turned out to be a very joyful event.

I took Lezlee back to the boat on Sunday night, and we left it up in the air whether we would hang out this coming weekend. I've got to be back in Birmingham for a doctor's appointment on Monday. I'm just gonna play it by ear, like I do so many other things.

Watch me now, here I go.
