It Came From The Porch : Journal Index

Sunday evening... a Porch party draws nigh. Christy leers in antici........ pation.
Random photo of Amelia's apartment behind our house...
... and Roy's.
8 September 1999:

Let's see... so what's new and exciting?

Got a new pair of bright, shining, electric blue Doc Martins. Hehehe, these things are great. Hideous, comfortable... and they were cheap! Christy stumbled onto a store that was selling wacky colored Docs for 29.99 a pair.

Siddhary bought like eighteen pairs.

So now everyone I know is wearing a new pair of Doc Martins. Hell, for thirty bucks, why not? My other Docs cost $120!

Spent Labor day weekend down in Mobile, had a good time. Did some actual work at Dogwood. That felt good, really good. I'm actually starting to believe that I'm going to have a life again when this is all over.

Amy says... Wine! We need wine! Wine! Wine!
So Nick and I went off to fetch some.
"Uh! Uh! Ooooooh! LOOOK! WOAH!!!" Nick's speech centers were temporarily overtaken by the beauty of a sunset.
Inside Delchamps, purchasing wine and getting that cashback feelin'.
Darlene came home Friday night. We all gathered for sushi (I even figured out some sushi that I could eat! Amazing) at the Uptown Octopus. Was fun... I got drunk on a few cups of sake and one Crown on the rocks. Sheesh, what happened to my stamina? Anyway, they all went out dancing and stuff. I just stayed home and got baked, watched movies. It was a mellow kind of weekend. Went fishing saturday night down at Dog River with John and JB (caught two croakers and a catfish), cooked out some burgers. JB makes a good burger.

Sunday night was a little bit of a Porch party. Darlene brought her new man down with her. He's cool, and they seem to fit together really well. She smiles a lot when she talks about him, and that's a good thing. They snuggle too damn much, but hey, I'm just jealous. But very pleased to see Darlene smile.

So I basically had a really mellow weekend down in Mobile. Now I'm back here in B'ham, chillin at the Townhouse and waiting to go in to Clinic to get my Pentam. Nasty stuff... they've gotta pretty much knock me out so I can handle the drugs, so I'm gonna be useless for the rest of the day. Figured I'd better get this update up now while I still could!

The party was on the front porch this time - candles everywhere. You ever noticed how pretty a girl lit by candlelight is?
The Ouija board came out, I left. I hate those things. Yeah, yeah, I know, everyone's tired of me bitching about it. My feelings are that if it works, it's not a party game, and if it doesn't work, why bother? Anyway...
Amy's brother Dave there on the left. Cool guy. We've also got Nick and David's friend Josh, otherwise known as The Hooded Menace. I don't know just why Nick's digging through a sock drawer. Probably smarter not to ask.
Me and David. Don't ask.
Neek! Leeps! Neek! Leeps! Damn he's sexy.
Day 100 quickly approaches. Man, can y'all believe it's been almost a year since I was diagnosed, and this whole mess started? September 24th. Coincidentally that's also the anniversary of my starting at Dogwood. Weird, huh? I'm hopefully on the downhill run with this disease thing. I'm ready to move back to Mobile and pick up my life, my career. I've been shooting with my old Nikon 35mm, and that feels GREAT. It's very exciting to be interested in something creative again, and have the energy to pursue it with the effort the endeavor deserves.

Hey, check this out. I got an email this morning saying that I had won a mention as a "Fiercefully Useful Site" from Fierce.com. Hold on, they want me to post this thing here:

Fun, huh?

Well, I just wanted to drop in and say hi. I've got to head out and get drugged up. Tanya's off in Tennessee tending to her grandfather, who's had surgery. Hopefully she'll be back this evening before I get out of Clinic... I could probably use her help walking back over here.

Y'all take care.
